
Special Service Area #32 Reconstitution
The Chatham Business Association (CBA) and 17th Ward are pursuing a Special Service Area (SSA) along 79th Street, generally between Lafayette and Damen Avenue. The goal is to work with business and property owners to identify what services are needed along 79th St.
What priorities require action? What type of programs, improvements, and needs have the greatest impact for 79th St?
What is an SSA and how does it work?
An SSA is a designated area where property owners decide to provide additional services to benefit residents, merchants, and visitors funded by a dedicated property tax.
Funds are then directed into the SSA to be spend based on local needs.
SSA Services
An SSA can help with a wide variety of services or programming within their individual boundaries. Common service categories include but are not limited to:
Customer Attraction
Website maintenance, marketing, decorative banners, branding, customized print materials, and promotions

Public Way Aesthetics
Sidewalk power washing, litter abatement, streetscape maintenance, and art mural installations

Sustainability & Public Places
Landscaping maintenance, bike installation, planters, and corridor enhancement programming

Economic & Business Development
Networking, promoting partner resources, and program assistance

Public Health & Safety Programs
Graffiti removal, public space upkeep, and safety resources
